Microsoft says Windows 11 is now up to 20% more responsive, according to an October 15 post on the Windows Experience Blog. The fine print matters: that number compares response times in Search, Start, right-click menus, Settings, Snipping Tool and File Explorer on build 26300.9550 against build 26200.7628. VideoCardz points out that it's about interface responsiveness, not a 20% jump in overall performance.

Microsoft also says Windows can now keep up to 2GB more active data in memory instead of moving it to slower storage, which should help most on 8GB PCs. On PCs with 8GB or less, Widgets now load only when you open them, freeing more than 200MB.

For games, Microsoft highlighted Advanced Shader Delivery, which delivers precompiled shaders for supported titles like Forza Horizon 6 and Gears of War: E-Day to cut initial load times. Microsoft recommends installing the Xbox PC app before downloading a supported game and keeping graphics drivers up to date.

To mark 25 years of Xbox, eligible Windows 11 PCs bought from participating US retailers from November 2 through December 31, 2026 can claim a 25-game collection. It includes Skyrim Special Edition, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Minecraft Dungeons and Gears of War: Reloaded. Microsoft notes some eligible devices can't play every game, and full terms go up November 2.
