GOG Confirms Galaxy Client Rebuild With Full Linux Support Coming in 2027

By Jerry VanOster · Nov 5, 2026

Quick answer: At its first GOG Showcase on Nov 5, 2026, GOG said a reworked GOG Galaxy client is heading to Linux while staying optional, with DRM-free offline installers unchanged. GamingOnLinux reports the new multi-platform client is due in 2027; closed-beta and update sign-ups are open.

GOG used its first Showcase, held for the store's 18th anniversary on November 5, 2026, to confirm that GOG Galaxy is officially heading to Linux. The pressroom post says the Windows and Mac clients are being reworked at the same time to be simpler and faster, with cleaner library views.

GamingOnLinux reports that the showcase framed this as a whole new Galaxy release for all platforms, with full Linux support due in 2027. GOG has not posted a more exact beta or ship date beyond that window. Sign-ups for Galaxy updates and related closed betas are open from the anniversary materials.

The company is clear that Galaxy stays optional. Offline installers and DRM-free ownership stay as they are, so players who never want a launcher can keep downloading games the same way. For Steam Deck, SteamOS, and Bazzite users who already juggle Steam plus other storefronts, an official Linux Galaxy client would close a long-standing gap without changing how GOG games are owned.

The same showcase also opened GOG Social closed-beta sign-ups and covered preservation and publishing news, including Wing Commander: Prophecy joining the GOG Preservation Program. Those are separate from the Galaxy rebuild itself.
